European Union and India agree to deepen cooperation in sustainable water Management.

India and European Union Agreed to enhanced cooperation towards sustainable management of water and reiterated that the two sides "remain committed to moving forward with cooperation in river basin management, fostering innovation and technology transfer to promote sustainable investment".
One such forum deliberated upon trilateral cooperation between East Africa, India and the European Union on tackling issues facing the East African Water bodies of Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika, with the consolidated strength of India and the EU. The 6th EU-India Water Forum was held in New Delhi back to back with the 8th India Water Week. A partnership between India and the EU was established in 2016, encompassing technological, scientific, and policy frameworks for water management. Phase Three of this document will concentrate on effective, sustainable solutions for river basin management, climate resilience, urban flooding, and water governance.
Under the IEWP, EU-India cooperates on river management in the Tapi and Ram Ganga River Basin; this cooperation will widen its efforts under Phase III to other important basins such as Brahmaputra. Both regions have cofunded seven research and innovation water projects bringing together 743 participants from the EU and India.
The theme of the project is Drinking Water Purification, Waste Water Treatment Real Time Monitoring and Control Systems. This IEWP will further support the market uptake for this cutting-edge water technology in India.
The high-profile event brought together government representatives, policy makers, experts, and businesses from India and the EU to work toward solutions for key water challenges while developing innovative technological solutions. The Minister of State for Jal Sakthi, Raj Bhushan Choudhary said, "The partnership achievement and put in stronger words that the India-EU Water Partnership has contributed considerably to the water sector in India in support of the strategies devised by the Minister of Jal Sakthiraj toward the holistic management of Indian water resources.". It looks forward to deepening this partnership further with India under the existing framework of water cooperation. A testimony to the ties that are growing between Europe and India, this forum has been a continuous process. This 6th EU-India Water Forum is one of the key platforms for discussing challenges in the water sector, sharing best practices, and enhancement of business and Research opportunities. This forum reattempted the pledge to secure sustainable water resource management for future generations. Current priorities of government and business partnerships in alienation are with the National agenda in India 2013, and Europe's Global Gateway Strategy is promoting sustainable investments, connectivity, and infrastructure developments focused on green, digital, and inclusive growth, an official statement said.
The IEWP is in close alliance with the U.S. goals on sustainable development. Besides contributing to SDG 6 and 13, the Partnership further supported SDG 15, Life and Land, and SDG Level, Sustainable Cities and Communities through the promotion of sustainable, green, and climate-resilient infrastructure via joint effects. A partnership which so far remains keen on contributing toward challenges in water at a global level, besides advancing broader goals inclusive of environmental sustainability and resilience.
