EU Regulation 2021/1691 of 13 July 2021 amends the record keeping requirements for organic operators contained in EU Regulation 2018/848.

The records, which must be kept by organic operators, allow for the traceability of production, to ensure internal quality control and to monitor compliance with the organic production rules.

Certain record keeping requirements are set out in Annex II of EU Regulation 2018/848 on the recognition and control of third country certification authorities.

Certain elements are made mandatory in the record keeping, including
- data on fertiliser use
- the use of plant protection products
- the species of wild plants that are harvested and their products
- the application of derogations from the rules on animal production
- the origin of animals brought onto the holding
- any animals entering or leaving the holding
- the diet of livestock and grazing periods
- veterinary treatments and cleaning and disinfection of buildings, installations and animals
- relevant supporting documents proving compliance with a fallow period applicable to certain farming systems
- compliance with organic wine production rules

The new provisions of this regulation are applicable from 1 January 2022.
